Sydney Termidor Pest Control and Removal

Active termites a problem?
Call now for a Free Quote and advice about your pest control/ termite situation

At ASSASSIN PEST CONTROL the termite protection that we favour is Termidor. These facts are why we recommend it to protect your home in Sydney, Australia.

  • Termidor is applied at very low rates. Typically, the active ingredient (Fipronil) is just 0.06% of the solution, a concentration much lower than that of older liquids and less than most insecticides.
  • Keep in mind, too, that since 1995, fipronil has been use around the world for flea and tick control on household pets and on agricultural crops to protect food supplies. And Termidor has virtually no odour, which means you and your family won’t notice a thing. No better choice for termite defence.
  • Termidor is the only termite treatment that combines a unique mode of action, a long residual, and the ability to manage colonies faster than a baiting system.

Unique Advantages of Termidor:

  1. Australia’s #1 termite defence with over 100,000 homes treated since 2000. Kills by ingestion, contact, and the “Transfer Effect,” meaning affected insects help spread Termidor throughout the colony before dying themselves.
  2. Manages colonies up to 6 times faster than bait systems.
  3. Most effective termiticide – over 10 years of test data prove most effective and fastest at eliminating termite populations.
  4. Responsible, low-dose treatment, with no odour.
  5. Only trained, termite professionals can apply the product.

The Truth about Termites
There are about 2000 known species of termites throughout the world. There is a concern in 7 out of 8 states and territories in Australia. Subterranean Termites, are extremely destructive, because they tunnel their way to wooden structures (like your home), into which they burrow to obtain food. Termites all share a virtually insatiable appetite for wood and other cellulose-containing materials. Given enough time, they will feed on the wood until nothing is left but a shell.

A Caste of Hundreds of Thousands
Termites are highly social insects that live in large colonies where populations can reach more than one million. A colony consists of several structurally differentiated forms living together as castes (including reproductive, soldiers and workers with different functions in community life.

In the spring, winged reproductives leave the parental nest in swarms to create a new colony. The swarming lasts less than an hour, so it’s very likely you’ll never even see it. The winged reproductives themselves look quite a bit like flying ants, for which they are often mistaken.

Those “Ants” Might be Termites
Both ants and termites have two pairs of wings, but ants’ wings are different sizes while the termites’ wings are all the same size. Also, ants have narrowed waists and elbowed antennae while termites have thick waists and short, straight antennae that resemble strings of beads. Don’t be fooled by colour or size. Ants can vary in size, and winged termites can be brown or black like ants.

Look for Signs
You’re more likely to discover you have a termite problem by discovering the evidence they leave behind rather than the actual termites themselves. If you encounter any of these tell tale signs, there’s a good chance termites are busy snacking on your home:

  • Piles of small, delicate wings shed by reproductives
  • Small piles of sawdust
  • Mud tubes built by termites for aboveground travel
  • Damaged or hollow sounding wood
  • Pinholes in drywall or wallpaper

Of course, it’s quite possible to have a hidden termite problem even if you never notice any of these signs. The best way to be sure is to contact a licenced pest control professional to conduct a complete inspection of your home. A Termite Professional will be able to determine if you have termites and recommend the best course of action for eliminating them quickly and completely.

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?
Coptotermes Subterranean termites are one of several termite species that threaten homes and other structures in NSW and Sydney areas. Nasutitermes and Schedorhintermes are next in line for destroying the most property in Sydney Australia. Drywood termites threaten homes in Northern Areas of Australia.

Sydney Building Inspection Information
Looking for building inspection tips? A home inspection for termites is known in Sydney Australia as a building inspection and includes a pest report and a building report. It involves a thorough visual inspection of the sub floor, roof void interior, exterior, and other areas of the property. An average house takes anywhere from one to two hours to complete. Cost varies from $185 - $495 depending on the size of the house and access. This is including G.S.T.

The report consists of eleven pages and digital photos upon request. Please remember a termite inspection report is designed to detect termites at an early stage as to reduce the amount of damage to your house. It does not stop termites. It is strongly recommended a termite inspection report is carried out at least once every twelve months and every three to six months for high risk areas.

Note: There is no household insurance that covers you for termite damage.

Essentially a Termite Building Inspection Report is Designed to:

  1. Detect old damage and active termites.
  2. Gives you the element of risk of infestation.
  3. Gives you tips on reducing the chances of termite infestation.
  4. Gives us enough information to accurately quote you on a termite treatment and to use the most appropriate method.
  5. Most importantly, educates you about termites.
  6. Identifies species of termites.

Building Inspection Report Equipment
Torch with bright light. This is essential and krypton bulbs give the best light for torches generally available today. LED torches, headlamps and flashlights are the next generation inspection tools and should be used when they come onto the market.

A termite sounding donger. A fibreglass rod with a small plastic ball at the end. It is designed to run along skirting boards, higher placed timbers and other exposed timbers. When it runs across termite infested timber the tone changes, indicating hollowed out timber.

A Moisture Meter. It is designed to pick up high moisture content in walls and timbers. Termites bring up moisture from the soil and into the walls and timbers.

A Termatrac microwave tracking device. Termatrac is a breakthrough development in the building inspection detection of termites, invented and developed in Australia using technology similar to radar, Termatrac is the exciting answer to detecting termites through timber, plaster board, brick or masonry with no interference to the building material or termite activity. With no drilling, tapping or prodding, Termatrac is the answer to termite detection without termite defection! With Termatrac, the pest professional enjoys the advantage of accurate detection and customer peace of mind.

Binoculars. They are used to look at roof lines in building inspections to see if there is any subsidence. That would be an indicator that termites have infested the roof.

Stanley Knife & Tape. If termite infested timber is located, we may cut it with a Stanley knife and expose the interior of timber identifying the species of termites then seal it back up with tape so as not to disturb the termites.

Listening Device. This listens to sounds in the internal of the walls. However, if you tap the wall with your hand and put your ear up to the wall you can hear the soldier termites rubbing the mandibles together.

The purpose of this building inspection is to give you the tools you need to select and maintain the right home for you. We think you’ll agree that the right home for you is affordable, comfortable and within your means to maintain for as long as you to choose live in it.

This building inspection offers insights that will help you make an informed decision in your choice of a home. Affording a home involves more than having enough money to cover the down payment, closing costs and monthly mortgage obligations.

Maintaining the overall condition of the home while you live in it and the repairs or preventive measures needed to do so can be just as costly.

This kit will explain how to conduct your own home inspection with an easytouse, step by step approach. Once you’ve evaluated your results, you’ll be better equipped to make a wise decision, whether it’s;

“Yes, I like this home; it suits the needs of my family, and I can afford to buy and maintain it.”

Or "No, I cannot realistically afford to buy and maintain this home, the termite risk is too great.”

Either way, it pays to know what you’re up against before you make an offer to purchase. The professional inspector gives you an objective and comprehensive report before closing. In addition, you may want to have the home tested for possible environmental hazards which are not usually visible, including, lead in the water, lead in paint, asbestos, and other toxic materials.

Make sure you can afford to buy your home and maintain it. You need to make an educated decision in your own best interest and learn what’s ahead of you now, rather than down the track ESPECIALLY if the house is endangered by termites, borers or wood decay.

Termites in Sydney

Building Inspections, Home Inspections, Termite Treatments and Termidor
Termites have a 200 million year evolutionary history closely related to cockroaches. They can be found right throughout Sydney. Knowledge of their biology is crucial for building and home inspections.

Termites forage for food over a large area (approximately 100 metres) in search of timber and operate and live in a central nest or colony. The worker termites partially digest the timber before returning to the nest to feed the colony. This can cause considerable damage to our homes and bank accounts, as many Sydneysiders will attest, and can happen in a matter of months. Termites are social insects, and there are multiple castes within the colony.

Termite Treatment after a Building Inspection has found Termites. A residual three step treatment around all structures coming up out of the ground of a building.

  1. Trench around all piers and treat with Termidor
  2. Trench around sub floor foundations and treat with Termidor.
  3. Lift pavers and treat with Termidor.

Alates
On a warm, humid evening, large numbers of winged male and female termites, the “alates” or “primary reproductives”, are released by the colony. A small number survive the flight, drop their two pairs of distinctive, equal sized wings, pair off, mate and, if they can, find a suitable location and start a new colony.

Queen
As the other castes take over the running of the colony the young queen of most species becomes “psysogastric”. Her abdomen distends to many times its original size and she becomes and egg laying machine, laying up to 1000 eggs a day. She is confined to her royal chamber, tended and fed by the workers and regularly fertilised by the king.

Nursery
The eggs are removed from the royal chamber and transferred to a nursery by the workers. Here the broo (the eggs and nymphs) develops into the castes that the colony requires for development and survival; workers, soldiers and primary or secondary reproductives.

Soldiers and Workers
Soldiers and workers are blind and sterile termites. The workers carry out the work of the colony and are responsible for gathering the food the colony needs. In most species, the heads of the soldiers are uniquely armoured and equipped to allow them to defend the colony against attack, notably from ants.

Termidor Termite Treatments
Until Termidor was released, protecting those homes involved chemicals that are repellent to householders as well as termites and which have to be applied in a perfect, unbroken barrier. Termidor has quickly established itself as the most effective and convenient protection for homes with no built-in barrier.

This type of termite protection doesn’t depend on a repellent barrier and actually eliminates termites rather than just repelling them. This is because termites cannot detect Termidor. It has the added advantages of low toxicity and no odour. In fact, Termidor is a soil termiticide that does not require occupants to leave the house while the treatment is carried out.

The First Undetectable Termite Trap
Older chemical treatments create a repellent barrier that termites won’t go through, but will try to find a way around. While they are usually effective, they have three main drawbacks; applying them creates a repulsive smell that lasts a day or two and can be difficult to live with; they deter termites, but do nothing to reduce the colony; and even a gap of a few centimetres in the barrier can cause the treatment to fail. Termidor supersedes those barriers with an extremely efficient in-ground trap that termites can’t detect the Treated Zone. Far from being repelled by a barrier, termites forage into the Treated Zone and are killed in one of three ways:

  1. Termites that ingest or contact enough Termidor can be killed outright.
  2. Those that only receive a low dose of Temidor become dysfunctional. They stop feeding and grooming each other, neglect their environment, become diseased and die.
  3. Many affected termites find their way back to the colony. Other termites then receive a lethal dose through normal social interaction or cannibalism.

Long-lasting Protection
Since the launch of Termidor in 1998, over 100,000 homes have been successfully treated in Australia. Pest Managers using Termidor have found local call backs to be almost nonexistent, and there has not been a single product failure. Termites infested houses which were treated in pre-release trials from 1995 onwards, remained termite-free for at least seven years.

Minimal Environmental Impact
We all want to protect our most valuable assets and eliminate termites from our homes, and we want to do it with as little environmental impact as possible. Whereas the termiticides used as barriers are rated Schedule 6 POISON, Termidor is in the Schedule % CAUTION and is the only soil treatment that is not classified as hazardous according to the criteria of WorkSafe Australia.

Although Termidor is lethal to termites, its specific mode of action is much les hazardous for humans, pets and wildlife. Termidor has the same active ingredient as a market-leading veterinary product applied to cats and does to control fleas. The active ingredient is also widely used on food crops.

As well as being highly effective, it is also easier to live with during and straight after treatment. Studies have shown that it produces no airborne residues so it is possible to remain in the house while it is treated. With other soil treatments you must leave your home for a few hours.

The Termidor Termite Elimination Program
When it comes to protection your home from termites, you have too much to lose to rely on anyone other than an experienced pest Manager using this proven step by step approach:

  • A thorough inspection to find out whether termites are present, locate and teat their nest if possible, and identify likely trouble spots.
  • A check of the drainage and ventilation under and around your home and any other structures, with remedial action if necessary.
  • Application of Termidor to create a Treated Zone.
  • A follow-up inspection of the area within three months after treatment to make sure it has been successful.
  • Regular inspections at least annually as recommended by Australian Standard 3660.
